LAPEER COUNTY, MI (AP) -

Police say infant car seats prevented two children from suffering serious injuries after the car they were in overturned in Lapeer County's Elba Township.

The county sheriff's office says two-year-old Audrey Page from Grand Blanc, and eight-month-old Anthony Page from Grand Blanc, were strapped inside their car seats and upside down early Saturday morning when a sergeant crawled inside the car and pulled them out.

The driver, 34-year-old Richard Page, and 32-year-old Jessica Rodgers, both from Grand Blanc, were seriously injured.

Their car struck a guardrail about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The car then entered a ditch, hit a utility pole and went airborne before landing on its roof. Smoke was coming from the car when deputies arrived.

It was snowing at the time and authorities are looking into weather conditions and alcohol as possible factors in the crash.
