It was a rough start to the week.

Alex Hall said he's thankful to be alive after he lost control of his truck on his way to school.

“I'm just lucky to be alive to be honest, it could have been worse, I thought,” Hall said.

Hall said that he can't believe we are still getting weather like this.

He said was in the middle of getting his truck ready for spring.

“I used to have a weight in the truck but I took it out, thought winter was over,” Hall said.

Due to the icy conditions, a lot of kids didn't have school on Monday. One parent said she wasn’t surprise her kids were in class.

“I think we used the two free days before spring break, I think it was time to get back to school,” said Heidi Kain.

Several schools agreed, including Freeland Community Schools.

Devin Bartow is a bus driver for Freeland and he said with icy conditions like Monday morning, you have to be extra careful.

“Make sure you give yourself plenty of extra time,” Bartow said. “Don’t be in a hurry. Watch out for other drivers.”

Hall said he will now be more careful he has some advice for driving on those slippery roads.

“Go a lot slower than you think you should go, because this is a 55 and I was only going 40,” Hall said.
