FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Even when she was happy, Micheal Streeter hated to smile.

"It's hard when I get pictures taken, because I just don't like the way it looks," Streeter said.

For the past 10 years she kept her mouth shut as much as possible because she lost her teeth at a very young age. With that, she also had a loss of confidence.

"It just makes me really self-conscious and even speaking to people, I wonder if I am like talking weird," Streeter said.

The mother of three works full-time and attends college part-time. She said expensive dental work was not high on her list of priorities.

"I pretty much figured I would never get the work done unless I hit the lottery," Streeter said.

In April, she was overcome by emotions when she learned her dream of a beautiful smile is coming true. Thanks to a couple of local doctors.

Dr. Michael Frey and Dr. Bobby Lesneski at Greater Michigan Oral Surgeons and Dental Implant Center had an idea earlier this year.

They wanted to give someone, who otherwise couldn't afford it, a chance to have a full-mouth make-over.

They sifted through more than 200 stories, but Streeter's stuck out.

"We could tell that she was obviously shy about her appearance and what not," Frey said.

Lesneski said, "She's going to school, she's working, she's got three young children. I mean it's just going to be a remarkable change in her life."

It’s a $50,000 change. The doctors will reconstruct her jaw and give her implants.

"Trying to imagine what it's like going to have teeth that's not going to move, that are not going to come out, and it's been so long I can't even remember what that felt like," Streeter said.

It's a feeling she said she'll be thankful for, a feeling that will allow her to smile again and to enjoy something she's missed for a decade.

"I will go celebrate and I will get a steak for sure," Streeter said.

On Aug. 10 Streeter underwent the surgery. She was full of emotion as she prepared for the full dental makeover.

"I didn't think I would win. I'm a difficult case," she said.

Frey said it was a great day for a well deserving patient. He explained the need for her dental makeover.

"Right now she's using a removable denture and having issues that most patients have. It doesn't fit correctly, it has a lot of movement and it affects the quality of life as far as aesthetically and function. So now we're hoping to get her teeth that won't move around in there," Frey Said.

Another surgeon on the case said the procedure will drastically change her entire outlook.

"This is life changing. This is going to make her life so much better given this opportunity and it feels food that we can do this for her," Lesneski said.
