"It feels pretty good," said Zack Csongradi.

Zack Csongradi is a senior at Saginaw Heritage High School during a time of year where athletics, or March Madness captures all the attention, Csongradi is winning at academics.

"We just had to design something that would go on a truck fender," Zack Csongradi said. "It could be whatever we wanted, we just had to create something new that had practical use."

Csongradi designed a customizable trim piece for a front fender on a truck, but it's not just a cool decorative item with lights.

"For a blind spot camera," Csongradi said.

Csongradi entered his design into a statewide competition with nearly 300 competitors, hosted by the American Society of Body Engineers.

Csongradi won first place overall.

His father, Drew Csongradi, said he's proud of his son for making the tough decision to put sports aside to pursue his passion.

"He was a great baseball player, we've had many milestones," Drew Csongradi said. "This is by far my proudest moment of him."

Zack Csongradi said while it was hard to give up what seems cool at the time, he said thanks to his parents, he's looking ahead to build his future.
