MECOSTA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

One man is in custody and a dog had to be put down after investigators say it was tortured.

Michigan State Police were called to Wheatland Township in Mecosta County on April 6 for complaints about a dog being tortured. Troopers arrived and found a dog that had been seriously injured.

They arrested a 33-year-old man from Six Lakes, and found the owner of the dog had asked the man to kill it, because he no longer wanted it.

Troopers were forced to euthanize the dog at the scene because of the extent of the injuries.

The suspect is currently in the Mecosta County Jail.
