GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -

A Lansing-area doctor who served years ago in the Michigan Legislature is accused of making false statements to an insurance company to get paid.

Federal prosecutors in Grand Rapids filed a criminal charge Friday against Paul DeWeese. Defense attorney Larry Willey says a guilty plea is expected.

DeWeese's clinic, NBO Medical, performed nerve block injections. But DeWeese was required to tell Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan that he had signed off on procedures performed by nurse practitioners.

The government says DeWeese sometimes gave his log-in information to others.

DeWeese's medical license was suspended last year during a broader investigation about prescription drugs. At the time, he said he always acted ethically.

DeWeese served two terms in the Michigan House.
