Robert Bradley oversees the bus fleet for Saginaw Public Schools. The latest state inspection numbers are out.

"I mean it's something we deal with every year," Bradley said.

According to their numbers, of the 51 buses inspected in late October, early November, 33 passed designated green or good. Four earned yellow for caution and 14 were deemed red, failing inspection.

"All those deficiencies are corrected immediately prior to him leaving the site," Bradley said.

In Midland, all of their school buses passed inspection for the second year in a row.

John Patten is supervisor of school buses for Midland Public Schools.

"Well, we do a really comprehensive maintenance program here," Patten said.

Of the 49 vehicles on their fleet, all of them passed for the second year in a row.

"We just got to stay on top of it all the time. I mean you can't let things slide," Patten said. "You got to keep a list of any problems that are coming up and make sure you get them fixed as soon as possible."

Bradley insists all of his fleet is safe. In fact, his own children ride the big yellow bus to schools in the district.

"The bus is red flagged if there's ever a deficiency or a red tag pointed out that bus gets a red sticker in the window," Bradley said. "Not only does the mechanical staff know that you can't go out, but all drivers know you cannot leave the yard."

The Genesee Intermediate School District has 130 buses, and 109 were in good condition. Lapeer Community Schools had a majority in good condition, 57 out of 69 buses.
