CARO, MI (WNEM) -

Wind farms are known to generate electricity and controversy.

On Monday night supporters held an informational meeting in Caro.

And a big part of it was to point out how these farms benefit the economy.

"This is a crop that's drought proof, flood proof; it gives some certainty to growers across the region. And again, when agriculture is strong, rural communities are strong," said Chuck Lippstreu, Michigan Agribusiness Association.

A farmer with two turbines on his property said wind farms are a solution to an upcoming problem.

"Coal's going away in the state of Michigan now, and we have to generate electricity somehow," said Kent Houghtaling, a Reese farmer.

At least one Tuscola County township has imposed a temporary moratorium on new wind farms.
