MIDLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Emergency work to repair a failing culvert is wrapping up, and cars will once again be able to drive a stretch of West River Road in Midland County.

The section between Mier and Blakely Roads, near Sanford Lake, was closed last march after the roadway started caving in.

Now crews say the road will be open to two way traffic by the end of the day, Thursday, April 14.

Gerace Construction was given the task of putting a bridge-like structure in place that allows smaller boat traffic to go underneath.

The Midland County Road Commission reports that the roadway will be gravel for the next several weeks, with a posted speed limit of 25 mph. As weather permits, the stretch will be paved, one lane at a time.
