Only a few months away from its grand opening, work has begun on a new farmers’ market.

Dietrich Bronner said he's counting the days until the new venue opens in Frankenmuth. On Tuesday, something very special was added.

“Today is the day we put the cupola on top of the farmers’ market building,” Bronner said. “And it has a very special element to it, which is the weather vane that a local blacksmith crafted over the past several months.”

Bronner said the cupola is the crown jewel on top of the new market. He says moving the location of the market last year from downtown and into the more rural area of Frankenmuth has had great results so far.

“It is amazing how many more locals came,” Bronner said. “Traffic, parking is closer, there isn't so much traffic as there is downtown to contend with. It was a very, very wise move and the community really welcomed us here and we are very grateful for it.”

The Frankenmuth Farmers’ Market building is set to open in July. But a pavilion will open as soon as next month.

Bronner said the new facility will be much more than your average farmers’ market.

He said the building will be home to a year round store, gathering barn and an incubator kitchen that local food entrepreneurs can rent out and get cooking.

“And people can rent that out to produce commercially sell able things, or even use it for catering,” Bronner said.

Bronner also said there will be room for 52 vendors at a time.

And as for the weather vane, you'll be seeing a lot of the new landmark.

“We are very proud of the weather vane on top, it's going to be built into a lot of our marketing,” Bronner said.
