Several police officers from around Saginaw County were honored Tuesday for their outstanding performance and service.

"I always wanted to be a cop, once I got involved in law enforcement I learned I could make a bigger impact in the detective's bureau and it's been great ever since," said Detective Larry Biniecki.

Biniecki is with the Saginaw County Sheriff's Office and was one of recipients of the award.

"I love helping people and that's the main thing we're here to help victims and help them proceed with their lives and picking up the pieces afterward and part of that is a little bit of closure as far as taking criminals off the streets," Biniecki said.

For more than 50 years the Exchange Club has honored police, by celebrating the officers of the year.

"It's very nice and it's very uplifting I believe for the officers to have an organization here in Saginaw County that takes the time out once a year to recognize them for protecting and serving their communities," said Saginaw Township Police Chief Don Pussehl.

These public servants said it's an honor to be recognized in this way.

"Never thought that I would receive anything like this didn't get into it to receive any awards but to be nominated and accept this, it's pretty nice," said Steven Beck, V.A. Police.
