On June 22, 2015, an EF-2 tornado struck the Tuscola County community of Arbela Township.

"It only took a split second. Boom. Gone.  The store, the house, everything," Cayer said.

Cayer's business, Diamond C Saddlery was in the storm's path. It took a lot of damage from the twister.

Now, nearly nine months later, the shop is back open.

"It's amazing that I’m as far along as I am. And by the time one year is up hopefully we'll be pretty much back to normal," Cayer said.

Folks at the store weren't the only ones that dealt with damage from the tornado.

"It was just gone and I was like oh my goodness," said Alex Bock.

A new building has been built where the old one was demolished by the tornado.

Bock was home as the cyclone made its way towards him. He was watching our First Warn 5 severe weather coverage and decided to take shelter.

"I headed down to the basement and by the time I got down to the basement you could feel that thing going over. That was the creepiest feeling I’ve ever felt," Bock said.

Cayer said he's taken his insurance company to court, trying to get them to honor his claim for the damage left in the storm's wake. He said people should learn what kind of coverage they have before severe weather strikes.

Cayer said if he sees another tornado, it will be too soon.

"It's quite traumatizing. You're in your house and you look up and there's no ceiling. You see sky," Cayer said.
