Homeless man charged after bringing machete to middle school

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A homeless man was charged with possession of a weapon after entering a middle school with a machete.

The incident happened at Handy Middle School in Bay City on April 7.

The suspect, Austin Donahue, did not have criminal intent, police said.

Donahue told police he was at the school to deliver a message to his brother who is a student at the middle school.

Police were called to the scene to investigate.

Donahue was charged with possessing a weapon in a weapon-free zone and carrying a concealed weapon.
