BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A Michigan man was arrested Monday for tax related charges.

Robert Samp, of Hillman, was indicted on two counts of tax evasion and one count of failure to file a tax return.

Samp owns a medical marijuana dispensary and failed to pay the federal income tax from his income earned from the dispensaries, according to United States Attorney Barbara McQuade.

Samp earned more than half a million dollars from the dispensaries between 2009 and 2011 and did not file a tax return for those years, according to a press release sent from McQuade’s office.

“Tax fraud has been inappropriately characterized as a victimless crime, but the true victims are the honest hard-working taxpayers who play by the rules and fulfill their duty to diligently file their returns each year,” said Jarod Koopman, spexial agent in charge.
