A man has been found guilty in the traffic death of a Hamburg Township police sergeant.

The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports Monday that a jury convicted 55-year-old Steven Mark Kelty of Oceola Township of operating a vehicle on a suspended license and under the presence of marijuana causing death.

Sgt. James Sanderson was killed in Genoa Township on Sept. 26, 2014.

Witnesses said Sanderson was thrown from his motorcycle in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Sanderson had been a member of the police department since 1994.

Kelty is to be sentenced May 19 in circuit court in Howell.
