MT. PLEASANT, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man has been sentenced to 84 months behind bars for strangling his then-girlfriend.

Prosecutors argue that in March of 2015 Richard Stubbs Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, struck his girlfriend in the head several times, grabbed her by the throat, and squeezed so hard she passed out.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Ludington also imposed three years of supervised release for Stubbs, who pled guilty on Nov. 5 of 2015.

The incident happened on the Isabella Reservation and was investigated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police.
