HEMLOCK, MI (WNEM) -

A community is coming together to help out a family that was devastated by an explosion.

Residents came together on April 26 to help out the Chapmans. They lost everything when their home exploded in March.

"It's still kind of hard to believe," said Mary Staszak, relative.

She is still in shock by what happened to her family back in March. Her stepbrother and his three boys and two friends were inside their home in rural western Saginaw County when it blew up. Miraculously, everyone survived.

"We're just taking it day by day and one step at a time," Staszak said.

A child's bike is pretty much the only thing left intact after the Chapman's house in Hemlock exploded.

The community came together on April 26 to raise money for they family. They sold raffle tickets and spaghetti dinners.

"They'd help anybody. They're friends to anybody. They're good people," said Sally Royce.

Three separate GoFundMe accounts have been set up to help the family. They have raised a few thousand dollars so far.

While the Chapmans may not have a lot of material things left, they said they have what matters most - each other.

"I'm thankful for everything. The house is no more, but we're working on that. It's a miracle no doubt," Staszak said.
