MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

"I sometimes come here three times a day," Julie Oliver said.

She loves to shop at her local Dollar Tree.

"For people that have a large family or are on a budget, the dollar store is the best place to come because everything here is a dollar," Oliver said.

You really can't go anywhere in Mid-Michigan without seeing a dollar store. For many, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar General are filling in the gaps as supermarkets move out.

TV5's James Felton stopped at the Dollar General in Reese and discovered most of the products were name brand and not on sale for a dollar. But even the generic items were made in America.

"Other stores mislead you with Family Dollar. You know, you get in there and there's not that much for a dollar," Oliver said.

Even though everything may not be a dollar, customers are happy the store is there.

"It's the largest store where you can get the groceries and they have a pretty good stock of everything. It's pretty well used," Ron Ebenhoeh said.

TV5 also found products more than a dollar at the Family Dollar in Flint. They also found a variety of name brand items to choose from that were made in America.

Meanwhile, the Dollar Tree in Saginaw sells everything for a dollar or less. Except for pop, because of the 10 cent deposit. However, there weren't as many name brand products there. But all of the products were American made.

In the end, you can do most of your shopping at a dollar store. Except you won't find a produce or fresh meat section, but you will find many products you'd expect to see at a supermarket.
