CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

An arrest attempt sparked a stand-off that ended with a man dead, and now another man believed to be in the home has been arrested.

It happened on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the area of 2200 W. Jefferson in Clare County’s Lincoln Township.

Clare County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Michigan State Police were trying to arrest a suspect when that suspect started firing at them.

Deputies returned fire, and then attempted to get the 32-year-old Harrison man to surrender.

Despite negotiations the man was later found dead, investigators believe the man, who has not been identified, shot himself.

Investigators now say that on May 10 they arrested Richard Thompson, 26, of Harrison. Thompson was arrested on an absconder warrant for violating his parole on charges of burglary and drug offenses.

Investigators believe he was in the home on May 6 during the stand-off.

He is currently behind bars.
