Meet Angela Jackson. She is a proud gun owner and was worried about her personal safety.

"It means protection in the home," Jackson said.

She is protecting herself by packing a pistol.

How easy is it to get a gun and how much does the seller really know about the buyer? The I-Team wanted to know so they went to Duncan's in Bay City.

As the I-Team discovered, the first step is selecting the gun that's right for you out of the dozens available.

"OK, so we picked out a gun. It fits you. It works for you. We agree on that," said James Woods, with Duncan's Outdoors.

The next step is the paperwork. In Michigan it's not very difficult.

"You have to fill out the entire first page. We ask for your phone number at the top, that's how we track you," Woods said.

The form asks 10 questions including criminal background and drug use.

After that the clerk asks for your driver's license. The staff is there to make sure everything is up to par.

"We'll see if the government says you can have a gun," Woods said.

After that, the store runs the person's information though a national background check system. There they have three options: proceed, delay or deny.

"Usually about two or three minutes after you type it in," Woods said.

In other states they require anything from permits to purchase from a dealer or even a license to own a handgun. In Michigan it takes minutes usually.

Jackson said the system works and it doesn't deter her interests.

"It's always been important for me to have a gun.I grew up around guns," Jackson said.
