MAYVILLE, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan high school student, who is confined to a wheelchair, had one special prom.

John Bringard suffered a stroke when he was 5-years-old that left him without the ability to walk.

Now he is a junior at Mayville High School. He wanted to attend his school’s prom, but he did not have a way to get there.

John’s family does not have a vehicle that could transport him to the dance.

That’s when a good Samaritan thought of a plan. Brenda Guerin-Rubino reached out to her friend Ray Herington, an employee with Lapeer County EMS, and asked for help.

Herington contacted his employer and asked if Lapeer County EMS would take John to prom, Lapeer County EMS said.

Herington volunteered his time to take John to prom and his employer donated the use of their wheelchair van.

John was voted Junior Prom Prince.

“It was an absolute pleasure getting to spend the night with this young man and the people that help him. Mayville High School students are a class act all in their own, making sure this evening was John’s best,” Herington said.

Herington said John kept saying, “Tonight was a good night.”
