BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A woman calls police after seeing her car stolen, leading investigators to a parole absconder.

It started on May 10 at 7:05 a.m. on S. Euclid Avenue near Hotchkiss Road in Bay County.

A woman called 9-1-1 to report that her Trailblazer, which was unlocked and parked in her driveway, had been stolen.

Michigan State Police Troopers and Bay City Public Safety Officers were called in and spotted a Trailblazer backed into a driveway on S. Euclid.

They saw a man putting gas into the gas tank, and when a trooper pulled into the driveway to investigate, the man allegedly dropped the gas can and ran off.

Other officers responded and the suspect was found along the nearby railroad tracks.

Investigators at the Trailblazer then say they found items that appear to have been stolen from a garage nearby.

They believe the suspect, a 36-year-old parole absconder from Bay City, broke into a garage and took some things.

He then allegedly walked them to the driveway of an adjacent home, stole the vehicle, and was going to load the items into the stolen vehicle when police spotted him.

The man’s name hasn’t been released pending arraignment.
