FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan bar was shut down after police received several 911 calls at the establishment since it opened last year.

The Uptown Sports Bar and Grill in Flint has been the scene of a homicide, violent assaults, carjackings, firearm violations, drug use, and other activities that threaten the public since it opened in April 2015, the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office said.

The bar, located at 1174 Robert T. Longway Blvd., was padlocked and shut down after Prosecutor David Leyton received a restraining order from a circuit court judge.

"This spot has been a nuisance to the community for a long time and has caused many problems for the Holiday Inn Express next door where a lot of artists and entertainers stay when performing at The Whiting and other local venues," Leyton said.

Leyton filed a nuisance complaint against the bar, which resulted in the establishment being shut down.

"We will continue to use Michigan's nuisance abatement statute whenever we can to protect the public from violence and other illegal activity that threatens the health, safety and welfare of our residents," Leyton said.
