DETROIT (AP) -

Roughly 100 teens with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer are being treated to a special prom in Detroit.

The annual event to be held Saturday at the Hotel St. Regis in the New Center area is sponsored by a nonprofit organization called Wish Upon a Teen. All attendees are being provided prom attire, hair and makeup, and transportation if needed.

Detroit-based Wish Upon a Teen bills itself as the only U.S. nonprofit solely focused on helping teens with such medical conditions experience normal teenage opportunities, promoting peer interaction and boosting self-esteem. It works with about 45 hospitals nationwide.
