“We're just happy to get her open, get her going,” said vendor Greg Lawrence.

Today is opening day for the brand new Frankenmuth Farmers Market, and Lawrence is ready to sell his organic heirloom veggies in the larger venue.

“It's a community event, it brings people together. We’ll have many events down here this year to bring [people] down here,” said Lawrence.

In fact, the new farmers market is a big draw for visitors, bringing more out-of-towners into the tourism based town of Frankenmuth.

“The economics around the farmers market is huge, everything is local, the money stays local and we have more vendors than ever before bringing more types of products,” said market spokesperson Dietrich Bronner.

The new building, which features an inside and outdoor market, has been two years in production.

“It's been a lot of work, a long hard road but we know the impact the market brings to everybody in the community and farther beyond,” said Bronner.

From cookies, to fresh herbs and garlic, shoppers we talked with can't wait to see all the new market additions.

“Fresh fruits and vegetables and they have the fresh plants you plant in your garden. Tomatoes and all different kinds of things,” said shopper Cathy Cypher.

Even with a chilly opening day, hundreds of people lined up to shop at the new market.

“This is just the beginning. Usually the opening day is a little slower because there's fewer products but there's a ton of people here and it’s a cold day here. So we're encouraged by everyone's curiosity,” said Bronner.

The customers said they are looking forward to what's still to come for the market.

“It's unbelievable what they've done in such a short period of time. It's a great thing to add to the Frankenmuth atmosphere and everyone will embrace it and enjoy it,” said Cypher.
