BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (MIOSHA) has ordered a Mid-Michigan landscaping business to stop operating.

The state alleges that Sunset Tree Service & Landscaping of Bay City lacks personal protective equipment, among other issues.

"By neglecting to comply with MIOSHA standards, Sunset has compromised the safety of its employees,” said MIOSHA Director Shelly Edgerton. “MIOSHA is committed to working collaboratively with employers to ensure worker protections, but when a company fails to correct previously identified hazards and continues to put workers in harm’s way, we will take the appropriate enforcement measures.”

The company has nine employees and is an ornamental shrub and tree service.

It requires extensive use of personal protective equipment, hand tools and various powered equipment.

So far this year three of the eight worker deaths in the state have been the result of tree trimming and removal.
