Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner.

For those who don't want to deal with the heavy traffic, there's plenty to do in your own backyard.

Rob Ruschmann has a road map of where you should go for Memorial Day weekend, literally. He sells them. He said when you need travel ideas for your stay-cation he has you covered.

"I sell everything from 3D postcards to fishing guides to Michigan atlases. And all kinds of maps that matter to the area," Ruschmann said.

A lot of people might be in need of them soon. AAA reports it will be the busiest travel period for the holiday in the past nine years.

Ruschmann said if you haven't made plans yet, there is no shortage of stuff to do.

"Things that are low cost, but fun to do. People can go visit all of the covered bridges. They go on mushrooming events. They have all kinds of motorcycling charity events too," Ruschmann said.

For some, Mid-Michigan could be the highlight of the three day weekend. Frankenmuth is hosting Balloons Over Little Bavaria, where you can watch hot air balloons take flight. The Dog Bowl is also happening in Frankenmuth.

Tina Louise said she is heading a little farther north to the Shoreline Arts and Craft Show in Tawas City.

"It's nice to get out and explore Micigan," Louise said.

Ruschmann has a few ideas if you plan on staying in Mid-Michigan.

The city of Burton is hosting a 5K run and walk and Saginaw County is having a Memorial Day parade.

If that's not enough, Ruschmann said to stop at your local gas station and pick up a map.

"There is some super beautiful places to visit," Ruschmann said.
