A prosecutor in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has told a court that a woman charged with homicide-open murder in one man's disappearance has said she is responsible for the deaths of others.

The Daily News of Iron Mountain reports that Iron County Prosecutor Melissa Powell said that -- if true -- it would make 33-year-old Kelly Cochran "a serial killer."

Powell is seeking a competency evaluation for Cochran of Merrillville, Indiana.

Christopher Karl Regan last was seen in Iron River in 2014.

Cochran was arrested last month in Kentucky. She was returned to Michigan Monday and arraigned. Cochran told a judge she wants to represent herself.

The Associated Press left a message Thursday with an attorney assigned to assist Cochran.

Police also are investigating the February death of Cochran's husband.
