FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man has been honored for helping take down a rape suspect.

On January 17 Flint Police were called after a woman said that the father of her child forced his way into her home and sexually assaulted her.

Police say the assault was interrupted by the victim’s boyfriend who chased the suspect from the home.

That’s when investigators say Michael Blake, a neighbor, heard someone screaming, and indications that the running suspect had just raped someone. Blake ran after the suspect and tackled him to the ground, holding him there until police arrived.

Ronald Cardwell Jr., 29, has been charged with various sex crimes and home invasion.

Police say Blake’s actions were both brave and heroic, and he was presented with a Merit Certificate by Mayor Weaver, Chief Johnson and Lt. Bernritter.
