BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

There's a new red barrel in the lobby of the Bay County Law Enforcement Center in Bay City but, it isn't there for trash.

The Red Barrel program is aimed at keeping prescription drugs out of the wrong hands.

People can drop off expired or unneeded medication in the barrel. Bay County Undersheriff Troy Cunningham says response to the program has been positive.

Drugs can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. It's asked that hypodermic needles and other sharp devices not be dropped.
