Police warn of scammers trying to sell Amber Alert kits

CHESANING, MI (WNEM) -

The Chesaning Police Department is warning parents of a new scam involving Amber Alert kits.

Investigators said they have received reports of a caller trying to give away or sell the kits. The individuals are not associated with any law enforcement or any Amber Alert system.

The scammers try to set up a meeting at to fill out paperwork, take hair samples and other tasks to make parents believe they are legitimate. They then bill you for the services.

If anyone shows up at your home, place of work or a relative’s homes, please call 911 immediately.
