Michigan confirms its first tornadoes of 2016

MARQUETTE, MI (WNEM) -

Two tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in Michigan on Tuesday, both in Marquette County.

The National Weather Service in Marquette confirms that a tornado touched down around 2:30 PM along River Road, 3 miles northwest of the town of Republic. No official rating for the tornado has been given as of yet. Several trees were damaged including one with a diameter around 1 foot. No other damage was reported.

The second tornado touched down shortly later around 2:56 PM, 3 mile east-northeast of Republic. Like the first, minor tree damage was reported, and the twister has yet to be rated.
