SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A measure to protect your kids had officers riding school buses in Sanilac County.

Deputies with the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department rode on school buses in all seven school districts in the county to help make sure drivers are stopping for bus lights.

A patrol car was nearby to stop any violators the deputies observed.

Riding on buses is the safety forms of transportation to and from schools, Sheriff Garry Biniecki said.

The sheriff wants to remind drivers to prepare to stop when a bus is slowing down and has yellow lights on. When the lights are red, drivers must stop.

Drivers also need to be cautious as we welcome warmer weather because more kids will be outside playing.
