Mayor urges Flint residents to flush pipes

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Flint residents will soon be billed for water usage again.

The city has not charged residents for their water usage for the month of May. That was due to the flushing process the city wanted residents to partake in.

"We are urging all citizens of Flint to flush. It's one of the best ways to clear lead, which has leached on to the pipes," Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said.

Weaver is urging residents to run their tap for up to 10 minutes a day. She insists it will help flush lead from the pipes.

The state has promised to pick up the tab during the month of May so residents can flush out their pipes.

"This is important. The pipes have been treated and we want people to use the water by flushing, be it washing or running your bath water, use it please," Weaver said.
