Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds Hockey Club announced today that Ty Dellandrea, the fifth overall selection in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection, has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement.

“From an organizational prospective, the Firebirds are thrilled to welcome Ty and his family to our program,” said Firebirds General Manager George Burnett. “We are excited to get some time together this weekend to further introduce Ty to the community and our facility. There’s a mutual excitement to get everything started and Ty is going to be a huge part of our foundation moving forward."

Dellandrea, a native of Port Perry, Ont., scored 35 goals in 35 games played last season with the Central Ontario Wolves Midget Minor AAA hockey team. Dellandrea also tallied six points in three playoff games after he was called up to the Whitby Fury in Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Ty,” said Firebirds Head Coach Ryan Oulahen. “This is a time for his family to be real proud of him, a time for Ty to feel that satisfaction but to know that the work is going to begin now. He’s a guy that’s going to be a big part of our future.”

“Playing in the Ontario Hockey League is what you dream of growing up,” said Dellandrea. “To make it official means a lot to my family and I. It’s a great community in Flint with a strong fan base and I’m looking forward to making the best impact as a player on the ice for years to come.”

The 2016 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection was held Saturday, April 9th. The OHL conducts the annual Priority Selection process by way of the Internet to allow eligible players and their families, as well as fans across the league to follow the draft in real time online. The annual Priority Selection featured 301 picks over 15 rounds.
