An Isabella County Jail inmate who attempted suicide but was revived by officers has later died from his injuries.

Officers were notified by another inmate on Friday, May 27 that 36-year-old Cory Theis was trying to hurt himself. Jail officials said when officers located Theis he was attempting to hang himself in a shower with a bed sheet.

Medical staff immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived. They said Theis began breathing on his own a short time later.

Theis was transported to Saginaw Covenant hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Theis was being held in the Isabella County Jail awaiting sentencing on recent convictions of several felony charges including first degree home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, breaking and entering and larceny.

The investigation into the incident has been turned over to the Michigan State Police.
