Memorial Day events across Mid-Michigan

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

From Naval ships to cemeteries, today millions of people across the nation will honor the men and women that died serving our country.  Here are many of the events happening in our area:

- BAY CITY:

Live music, and Civil War re-enactors will be on hand to honor fallen heroes.  Pine Ridge Cemetery holds the annual Memorial Day ceremony, at 10:30, this morning.  The focus of that ceremony is on 22 Civil War Veterans buried in the cemetery.  The event features remarks from former TV-5 Weather Specialist, Eric Jylha. 

Mass at St. Stanislaus Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.

- SAGINAW:

The city will host a Memorial Day parade, at 11:00, this morning.  The parade will start at Federal Street, and march along South Washington, ending at the Saginaw Memorial Plaza, at Hoyt Park.  World War Two Veteran, Bill Kubik, will serve at the parade's Grand Marshal.  A service will follow the parade, at the Veterans Memorial Plaza.

Gathering at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrews Cemetery.

Gathering at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

- KAWKAWLIN:

The Most Reverend Joseph Cistone will hold mass at 10:00, this morning, at Calvary Cemetery.  It will be an outdoor mass, so bring a chair.

Another mass will be held at st. Valentine Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m.

- LINWOOD:

Gathering at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Anne Cemetery.

- NORTH OF MIDLAND:

Mass at New Calvary Cemetery, at 8:30 a.m.

- REESE:

Mass at St. Elizabeth Cemetery at 9:00 a.m.

- PINCONNING

Mass at St. Michael and St. Agnes Cemeteries at 9:00 a.m.  

Also mass at St. Mary Church at 2:00 p.m.

- CLIO:

Gathering at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.

-  BURTON:

Beginning at 9:00, this morning, a 5-k will start at Atherton High School.  A parade will motor down Center Road, beginning at 2:00 p.m.  At 4:00 p.m., there will be fun for the whole family on the lawn of Burton City Hall.  Finally, at 8:00 p.m., residents can gather at the city's memorial near the police station, for a candlelight vigil and fireworks.

- FLINT:

A ceremony honoring military members is happening at McFarlan Veterans Memorial Park.
It begins at 9-30 a.m. The program includes a new addition to the park's memorial column: Navy Seal, John Wayne Marcum, from flushing.

- GENESEE TOWNSHIP:

A big parade starting at 11:00 a.m. beginning along Genesee Road, from the high school parking lot.  A free festival follows until 4:00. It can be found on the end of Green Arbor Drive.  There will be hay rides, a car show, food, and live music among other activities.
