BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Another Bay City apartment building is having elevator problems.

Some of the residents at the Bradley House Apartments are stuck in their apartments because of the broken elevator.

Susie Schmidt needs the elevator to leave her third floor apartment. Her legs are weak and she has pancreatic cancer.

"I get out of breath and my legs get real wobbly," Schmidt said.

The elevators in her complex are among nearly 29,000 in the state. They are overseen by 24 state inspectors.

Elevators, like the freight elevator used for emergency medical assistance for seniors at Maplewood Manor, are unable to run after a renovation until an inspector can certify it for operation.

For Schmidt's in-home healthcare worker and frequent doctor visits, the elevator is her lifeline to the outside world.

"They're breaking down all the time," Schmidt said.

The property manager was not available for comment.
