MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

The Dow Chemical Company officially took over operations at Dow Corning.

The merger ends Dow's 72-year partnership with Corning Incorporated.

Dow Corning will operate as a stand-alone business inside Dow until at least 2018.

There’s no word yet on if any jobs will be affected.

Meanwhile, Dow's merger with Dupont is expected to close in the second half of this year.

When the chemical giants combine, the new $130 billion company will be called Dow-Dupont.

The plan is to eventually split that up into three separate companies, each with its own focus of agriculture, material sciences and specialty products.
