A small plane made an emergency landing Tuesday at a Mid-Michigan airport.

A spokesperson for the Bishop International Airport in Flint told TV5 around 5:30 p.m. a student pilot and instructor realized they had mechanical problems and had to prepare for an emergency landing.

As they prepared to land, the landing gear for the six-seater, single-engine Cessna 210 failed. Only one of the three wheels partially deployed.

The spokesperson described it as worse than a “belly landing” because of the danger of flipping the plane on contact.

Luckily, as they touched down the wheel retracted, the spokesperson said, and the men were able to “belly land.” No one was hurt.

The plane is registered to an owner in St. Johns.

The student pilot and teacher were flying out of Alma.
