BRIDGEPORT, MI (WNEM) -

A Michigan native and NFL star visited Mid-Michigan to award students for their commitment to health and fitness.

Lamarr Woodley was in Mid-Michigan on Thursday for an epic field day at Martin Atkins school in Bridgeport.

"I think it's not very often you have an NFL football player come to your school," said Steve Baker, principal at Bridgeport Middle School.

Atkins was one of only six schools across the country to win this field day. A parent in the district won the sweepstakes set up by Dannon Yogurt.

The sweepstakes included a fun field day, a visit by Woodley, and $5,000 to the district for health and wellness programming.

"It's all for a good reason. For some of them, doing football drills and doing fun stuff to get them active. A lot of them probably don't do this kind of stuff at home, but to come out here and be active for the day," Woodley said.

Woodley also spoke to the kids about the importance of following their dreams and focusing on school.

"They might see me on the TV, newspapers, around town, but to actually have a chance to interact with a pro athlete, speaking if I were a kid, is great," he said.
