MUNDY TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Neighbors are being credited with helping police track down a suspect during a foot chase.

A Mundy Township police officer pulled over a suspect on Sunday, June 3 in the 7000 block of Linden Road around 6:30 p.m. for a shoplifting at Meijer.

Police said the suspect ran from the vehicle and led officers on a foot chase.

Officers from several police departments, including a K-9 unit, set up a perimeter in the area and “flushed” the suspect through the field and woods until he came out in the Grandwood subdivision where he was taken into custody.

The Mundy Township Police Department thanked residents from the Linden Road, Peppermill and Grandwood subdivisions for shouting out sightings of the suspect and offering water to the officers.

“Criminals need to realize what great neighbors Mundy Township has in both fellow jurisdictions’ officers and citizens,” the department said on Facebook. “Hat tipped to all for a job well done.”

The suspect is in the county jail with “a couple extra felonies to deal with,” the department said.
