New State law on petition signatures

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

Governor Rick Snyder has signed a new law that sets a 180 day deadline for gathering petition signatures on proposed legislation and constitutional amendments.

Signatures will not be valid if they are signed more than 180 days before the petition is filed with the Secretary of State.

The bill was sponsored by State Senator Dave Robertson (R) Grand Blanc.

The new law codifies what has been the existing practice for 30 years.
