BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Four bronze statues at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Bay City are being refinished, free of charge.

Four figures have been flaking and are discolored. They are of Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, St. Stanislaus and a kneeling angel.

A repair team from the Matthews Bronze Company, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, came to the cemetery June 6 and started work on them.  They expect to continue the refinishing process June 8, weather permitting.

The company which produced the statues has no obligation to make the repairs, but offered to do so in the name of good will.

The Diocese of Saginaw, working with Catholic Management Services, plans to focus on the beautification of cemeteries throughout their jurisdiction.
