SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

There is no doubt that we have become very spoiled over the past few weeks here in Michigan. Temperatures have consistently been running 10 or more degrees above average since the late stages of May, with plenty of sunshine, humidity, and thunderstorm activity to go along with it. That is, until Tuesday.

If there were a single cold spot in the continental United States on Tuesday, we found ourselves right in the middle of it. We can thank our most recent storm system for that. The system's sprawling circulation near Hudson Bay tapped into cold polar air in northern Canada, pulling it south into the northern Plains and Great Lakes.

As a result, high temperatures on Tuesday ran nearly 10-20 degrees below average here in Mid-Michigan. In some cases, that was a 20-30 degree swing from the middle and upper 80s we have grown used to. Here are some of the exact numbers from Tuesday:

Saginaw - High: 64°     Normal: 75°

Flint - High: 68°     Normal: 76°

Houghton Lake - High: 54°     Normal: 73°

Adding to the out-of-place feeling, parts of northwestern Canada, and even Alaska saw warmer temperatures that we did here in Michigan. Fear not, this trend will correct itself by the end of the week. Just hang in there for one more cool day on Wednesday, and by the weekend, this will all be behind us!
