TRAVERSE CITY, MI (WNEM) -

From its inviting beaches to its modern downtown area, Traverse City has become one of Michigan's most popular tourist destinations.

“Our natural resources just attract alone and then once you get here you add on top of that a beautiful downtown, a foodie town filled with restaurants that use our local farmers,” said Laura Oblinger with the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce.

TV5 wanted to check out Traverse City's food scene for ourselves, so we headed to Red Ginger, an Asian infusion restaurant that's won several state and national awards.

Dan marsh is the owner and executive chef.

“This area is just beautiful, the wineries that we work closely with at the restaurant, the microbreweries, all the natural resources, it's just an awesome place to be,” he said.

Marsh is a Traverse City-native.

In recent years he's watched his hometown attract more families and millennials.

“It's just a much more dynamic, very progressive city,” he said.

Part of that is thanks to the booming downtown area.

“Downtown Traverse City is just a unique place, a lot of unique retail, a lot of unique restaurants and all those things come together to make it a really desirable place,” Marsh said.

Once you're done exploring all the shops and restaurants downtown, you can head just across the street to kick off your shoes and soak up the sun at the beach.
