Director of Good Samaritan Network in need of help

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The Good Samaritan Network has helped several people in need over the years by raising thousands of dollars to help Mid-Michigan communities.

Now, the pastor with the GSN is in need of help. Keith O'Neal will go under the knife this week for a triple bypass surgery. The network is reaching out for assistance.

"Helping someone is much better than being someone," O'Neal said.

He has spent every heartbeat doing what he can to help others. He's the director of the GSN, an agency that has provided assistance to families throughout the region under his leadership.

O'Neal's health has taken a turn for the worse. First he was diagnosed with pneumonia, then after more tests a life-threatening issue was discovered.

"They say I've got triple bypass surgery that is needed," O'Neal said.

He is facing the prospect of a long recovery after the operation and his brother said it's time for the people O'Neal helped to return the favor.

"This community, I'm asking for all the things that you've seen Good Samaritan doing here. Now the director of Good Samaritan needs your help," said Doug O'Neal.

Doug O'Neal believes his brother will need about $12,000 to pay bills and other monthly expenses. He said his brother's income is $0.

"Think about it right now. You had no revenue coming in for the next four to five months and you're supposed to be recovering from heart surgery. What kind of stress would that put on you while recovering," Doug O'Neal said.

As for the pastor, he's decided to spend his life making a difference instead of making dollars. He said he finds it ironic that he is the one that needs a little cash from his community.

"There are times in our lives when I guess we all need help and that's at time that's touching to know that people care enough to help you," Keith O'Neal said.
