A roughly half-mile-long ice cream sundae is in the works in Michigan as part of a record attempt.

The sundae being made Saturday will require more than 12,750 scoops of ice cream along eight blocks in Ludington, a Lake Michigan town 100 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.

Ice cream shop House of Flavors in Ludington and others involved sought thousands of eaters, hundreds of scoopers and a cleanup crew for the event. It serves as the 2016 gathering for "Love Ludington," a community movement highlighting and promoting the city.

The event is the same day as the Lakestride Half Marathon.

According to Guinness World Records, the record for the longest ice-cream dessert of 1,957 feet and 1 inch was set in 2015 in Manurewa, New Zealand.
