Police fatally shoot man after credit union robbery

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a man was fatally shot when he pointed a gun at an officer following a holdup at a credit union in western Michigan.

Grand Rapids police are investigating Monday morning's shooting. The man's name was not immediately released.

Police chased the man's car through three communities until calling off the pursuit when he became more reckless on the road.

Two Kentwood officers later found the stopped car. Cash was on the ground and inside the vehicle.

The man saw the officers and started running. MLive.com reports that the officers chased him into a backyard where the shooting occurred about 10 a.m. A gun was recovered.

The Kentwood officers have been placed on administrative leave.
