A man who got a new trial after being convicted in the death of his half-brother in southwestern Michigan has been sentenced to 39-80 years in prison.

A Van Buren County jury earlier this year convicted Antonio Lewis of second-degree murder in the death of Ivory Shaver. WWMT-TV reports that Lewis learned his punishment Monday and was given credit for nearly 1,400 days served.

The state Supreme Court last year declined to take an appeal from prosecutors in Lewis' case. He'd earlier been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Shaver, whose body was found in a rural ditch in Van Buren County in 2012.

The appeals court overturned the conviction, saying Lewis' rights were violated when he wasn't allowed to represent himself after the trial started.
